Article: Coal proponents fire back at environmental groups - KGMI - Bellingham

Whatcom County, Wash. -- Proponents of coal exports say recent reports of the alleged discovery of coal debris under the trestles over Washington waters is nothing more than political grandstanding.

Lauri Hennessey with the Alliance for Northwest Jobs and Exports says the discovery is just another attempt by environmental groups to stop coal-shipping terminals like the one planned in Whatcom County.

She says trains have been hauling coal in Western Washington for decades, but this is the first time anyone has complained about coal getting in the water.
